How to Calculate Required Grade

To calculate the grade you need on your final exam, follow these steps:

  1. 1
    Multiply your current grade by its weight
  2. 2
    Subtract this from your desired grade
  3. 3
    Divide by the weight of the final exam

Practical Examples

Example 1 Basic Calculation

Current Grade: 85%
Current Weight: 60%
Desired Grade: 90%

Current Grade Points = 85 × 60 = 5100

Required Points = 9000 - 5100 = 3900

Required Grade = 3900 ÷ 40 = 97.5%

Example 2 Different Weights

Current Grade: 75%
Current Weight: 70%
Desired Grade: 80%

Current Grade Points = 75 × 70 = 5250

Required Points = 8000 - 5250 = 2750

Required Grade = 2750 ÷ 30 = 91.67%
